Liquid Glucose (Corn Syrup)

LIQUID GLUCOSE

Liquid Glucose is a transparent and an aqueous solution of nutritive saccharide obtained by starch hydrolysis using corn and rice as raw material, which is purified and concentrated to required solids. It can be colorless to light yellow in color. It is a versatile product.

Applications:

  • It is used as a major ingredient in hard-boiled candies as it prevents crystallization and imparts cohesiveness.
  • Liquid glucose is used in conjunction with sugar for manufacturing flavored candies and chocolates.
  • It is used in the preparation of glucose biscuits.
  • It helps keep food products soft and fresh and acts as a preservative. Therefore, it is widely uses in jams, jellies, chewing gums and canned fruits.
  • Syrups used for making pies in bakeries also contain liquid glucose.
  • It is incorporated in ice creams as it enhances flavor and decreases the freezing point.
  • It is used as a flavoring and preservative agent in mouth fresheners
  • Liquid Glucose is used in tanning to enhance weight and ensure a softer texture. Used to precipitate chrome into the body of the leather due to its reducing action. It is added to shoe polish to prevent it from caking and to help it to give a better and quicker shine.
  • It is also used in cough syrup and vitamin based tonics. It is also used as a base of artificial honey & as a granulating agent for tablet coating.
